Grollo Homes has taken out five titles for its custom designed Mont Albert show home, Floating Forms, at the 2019 Excellence in Housing Awards and the 2019 HIA CSR Victorian Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards, which celebrate exceptional craftsmanship and building excellence in Victoria’s residential sector.
Acknowledged for distinction
The 2019 Excellence in Housing Awards, hosted at Crown Palladium by Master Builders Victoria on 11 October, acknowledged distinction in the categories of Renovation/Addition, Best Display Home, Best Custom Home, Best Multi-Unit Development, Best Sustainable Home, Best Kitchen, and Best Bathroom.
Awarded the Best Display Home in its price category, and boasting the Best Bathroom in a Display Home, Floating Forms is a testament to Grollo Homes’ experience and expertise in custom creation and construction. The home’s unique design elements, sustainable and innovative solutions, as well as the quality throughout the build all contributed to its success.
Showcasing the best in home building
The HIA CSR Victorian Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards was held in the Palladium Ballroom at Crown Towers in Melbourne on 8 November. Attended by industry leaders and VIPs from across Australia, the Awards showcased and acknowledged the best in home building in Victoria.
Grollo Homes was awarded Display Home of the Year, Display Home over $1 million, and Best Bathroom in a Display Home for exceptional tradesmanship, design and visual appeal inside and out.
It was also a finalist for the Best Laundry in a Display Home.
As the winner of the Display Home of the Year for Victoria, Grollo Homes’ Floating Forms show home will now go on to represent the state at the 2020 HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards taking place as part of the 2020 HIA National Conference from 28-30 May 2020 on the Gold Coast.
A grand display of excellence
Floating Forms is the culmination of 50 years of craftsmanship and design ingenuity, challenging the standard floor plan and design of the modern home.
Featuring a multi-faceted, post-modern facade, the grand five bedroom, three level home has a floating staircase and walkways, rounded walls, high ceilings and large curved double glazed windows. Its grandeur continues with en suites to accompany each bedroom, a seven car garage, 12 metre pool, multiple terraces and an elevator.
The design also incorporates a floating deck leading to the front door, as well as pagoda-style roofs which hover above the external walls.
The techniques and materials used were critical to the design and outcome of the build, which commenced at basement level, with 2.7m high core-filled double brickwork retaining walls. While more expensive than other forms of retaining construction, this technique was chosen for the quality and longevity of the build.
No expense or customisation was spared, with doors, staircase, balusters and many other components being designed specifically for this home. All cabinetry was made in Grollo Homes’ joinery and assembled on-site, and the windows were custom designed and made to achieve the curved design.
On trend en suite
Floating Forms’ award-winning bathroom is the hotel-style en suite for the home’s master bedroom. On par with the rest of the home, it features high quality fixtures and fittings, as well as unique custom finishes. 
Separated from the master bedroom by a marble bath and a floor-to-ceiling window, the en suite features an array of grand finishes. Custom cabinetry was made in the Grollo Homes’ joinery workshop with American Walnut trim, while the floor and benchtops were made from a combination of Calacatta and Pietra Grigio marble, with bronze mirror-coated glass used on the walls.
Additional features of the bathroom include a hidden cistern, a laundry chute, and black chrome taps and fittings to create a luxury hotel feel.
